The INE-GSEE Labour Institute published an Intervention Text by labour experts Angelos Efstratoglou and George Kritikidis, with the objective of monitoring investments, employment and labour productivity in the period 2000-2022, as well as the research on their relationships.
The specific period is divided into a first period (2000-2007) of investment growth, a second period of their contraction (2007-2012) and a third period (2012-2022) of their stabilisation, at a particularly low level and limited increase during the last years. Over the entire analysed period, investments decreased by 27.1%, from 38.0 billion euros in 2000 to 27.7 billion in 2022 (constant 2010 prices).
In the same time periods, the developments in employment and labour productivity are monitored and their relationships are sought both through a comparative consideration of their sizes and changes and through the use of their correlation coefficients.
It was found that in the period of investment growth, labour productivity increased faster than employment, in the period of their contraction, productivity decreased less than employment, while in the period of stabilisation and limited increase, productivity decreased, while employment increased, highlighting the effect of other factors in this increase.
