Policy proposals for work in the platform economy

Charalambos Tsekeris August 4, 2022

Charalambos Tsekeris, Senior Researcher at the National Center for Social Studies on platform work:

  • Rapid developments in the platform economy require equally rapid and proactive regulation
  • Transparency of algorithms, fairness and accountability for platform workers and the responsibility of platforms as employers
  • A mix between self-regulation and traditional regulation from the state, making workers more visible vis-à-vis algorithms.
  • Regulation – Supervision – Control
  • The empowerment of the fragmented subject of digital work, i.e. the worker comes to the fore and must be protected.
  • Alternative futures for work (Foresight): e.g. to strengthen social economy in the platform ecosystem.
